Foxes - Year 5
Hello and Welcome to Foxes
Our teacher is Mr Winn.
Mrs Griffiths also supports us with our learning.
This is the Year 5 class.
Year 5 is the important step into UKS2. We continue to build on the independence of your child as a learner and a citizen in our local community.
During Key Stage 2, those good foundations developed in the early years are put to good use as children are encouraged to become independent learners, developing their maturity, resilience, perseverance and empathy.
Reading
Over the course of the year, the children are expected to read at both school and home. The children are encouraged to read a range of texts, which can be books from the class library or books selected from home.
The children can log their reading activity in their reading diary. Child then earn raffle tickets in class for entries in their Reading Record, and once a term all the raffle tickets are entered into a school-draw to win a gorgeous new reading book.
PE
PE will take place on Thursday and Friday afternoons. Each week we have one indoor session and one outdoor session, weather permitting.
Please also ensure that long hair can be tied back and any jewellery can be removed by your child in lesson or before school. Children must be able to remove earrings before participating in PE.
Home learning
At the start of the term, a set of homework challenges are sent home as a paper copy. Each week, Fox children are invited to choose one of the challenges and complete it in their homework. Homework should ideally be handed in on Wednesday. Every Friday afternoon, the class have an opportunity to share their homework challenges and celebrate one another's hard work.
Spellings are also set each week and taken home on a sheet to support regular practice. The weekly spelling test takes place every Wednesday morning.
New spellings go home on Wednesday.
Trips/ Visitors
In Year 5 we learn about Ancient Greece in the summer term, and visit the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambrigde to enhance this learning. This exciting trip really helps to ground our historical understanding.
Each year, Fox Class have the opportunity to participate in Bikeability where they learn road safety on their bikes. Children can earn their Level 1 and Level 2 Bikeability certificates.
Each Christmas, Fox Class lead the church carol service for the school and wider community, with Bible readings, Christmas poetry and the story of the Nativity. This is always a fantastic opportunity to showcase the strengths of Year 5 at our local church.
